At ASM, faculty and staff work together with parents to ensure the success of each child. We recognize that communication between the school and our parents is critical to building a healthy and long-term relationship. Technology has enabled us to communicate with our parents in a variety of ways and when it comes to discussing your child, we always welcome a face-to-face conversation.

Parents are encouraged to become involved in the life of the school. All of our parents are considered members of PACE (Parents’ Association Community Effort). There are a variety of ways to get involved! See the Parents’ Association section below to learn more.

“At ASM, you can be involved as much as you want. So many schools limit these opportunities. I am so happy to be part of a community that truly embraces parent participation!” ~ Lower Elementary parent

Parents’ Association Community Effort (PACE)

ASM has an active, vibrant Parents’ Association that is an integral part of the school’s culture. The association, called PACE (Parents’ Association Community Effort), is the doorway through which parents can become involved in the school community and provide meaningful support. All families with a child at ASM are automatically members of PACE.

PACE coordinates a variety of programs for the school annually. It serves:

  • The faculty by providing parent involvement and support for the classrooms.
  • The students by creating opportunities for socializing at all-school socials, picnics, and fostering opportunities for community service.
  • The parents by providing ample opportunities for direct involvement and parent education.

PACE is run by an executive committee, which is elected in the spring to serve the following school year. The officers, including President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer, serve one-year terms. Meetings are held monthly, following an All School Meeting. Often the business meeting will be combined with an informative update by the Head of School, or a parent education workshop.  If you are unable to attend the meetings, you can read the most recent meeting’s minutes here.

2023-2024 PACE officers:

President: Challie Clemons (Lower and Upper Elementary)
Vice President:  Teresa Goullaud (Children’s House)
Treasurer:  Yan “Grace” Zhao (Children’s House)
Secretary:  Ling “Ellen” Wu (Lower Elementary)

Community service has become an established part of the annual programming coordinated by PACE. Students and parents alike support book drives, Coats for Kids, food drives, and annual holiday giving programs supporting Lazarus House and Bread and Roses.

All-school events, fun for students and parents alike, include the Ice Cream Social, Chinese New Year and school picnics.

The success of our school would not be possible without the support of our parents.  There are a variety of opportunities to get involved with ASM based on interests, talents or skill sets. Parents can assist with planning and implementation of events, volunteer in the school library, serve on special-purpose committees and so much more!

Parents can learn about volunteering in detail at the annual Volunteer Fair, held every September, by visiting our Volunteer section below or by contacting PACE leadership with questions or ideas.

Volunteer with ASM

“Volunteering at ASM, whether in the classroom, in the library, or for an event, has been a marvelous way to experience this amazing community of people: students, parents teachers and staff. I see that giving my time and effort makes a positive contribution to my children’s school and I’ve also made some wonderful friends this way!” ~ Children’s House Parent

Each year PACE (Parents’ Association Community Effort) hosts a week-long Volunteer Fair for parents to learn more about the opportunities to get involved with ASM.  Below are a sample of the opportunities to get involved during the school year.
