Museum of Science Partnership

I am excited to announce that Andover School of Montessori has been selected by The Museum of Science (MoS) to pilot their new engineering curriculum for kindergarten students! One of only four schools, ASM will be providing feedback on the Engineering is Elementary (EiE) for Kindergarten curriculum which will be available next summer. Engineering is Elementary® (EiE) is a project of the National Center for Technological Literacy® at the Museum of Science, Boston.
In 2014, ASM recognized the importance of integrating the STEM disciplines into its educational program. Eight representatives from our faculty and administration completed a year-long professional development program at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) in order to develop a strategic plan for the implementation of STEM.
As part of the strategic plan, ASM partnered with the Museum of Science. They trained our faculty to teach the engineering design process using their EiE curriculum. This curriculum was designed for older students and has been adapted by Mrs. Burns for kindergarten. She is thrilled, that according to the MoS, they are now developing “units that introduce the engineering design process in a way that is easy for young learners to understand and follow.” In conjunction with the EDP curriculum, our kindergarten students also receive lessons in programming and robotics.
At ASM, we believe our time-honored Montessori philosophy and contemporary curricula foster critical thinking, collaboration, problem solving, communication, creativity, flexibility and persistence.
