ASM’s Community Garden Comes To Life!

Think spring! Our 6th, 7th and 8th year students are planning ASM’s community garden, which is the focus of their next-level collaborative project. Enthusiasm for the garden has been the inspiration for a year-long endeavor that will culminate in a larger and redesigned garden for ASM. The garden was revitalized last year and our community enjoyed a healthy crop of tomatoes and cucumbers!
This earth-friendly project incorporates many disciplines as students create their redesigned garden space. Working with a team of teachers, students are using vivid imagery to “paint a picture” of their proposal with their words, proportional reasoning to create a scaled-down, 3-dimensional model of their vision and art to create a mural that depicts photosynthesis on the garden fence.
Over the past few weeks, I have been highlighting our next-level projects which are an exciting and meaningful component of our academic curriculum. Whether working with microscopes, engineering tornado-proof structures or designing a new garden, our next-level projects have been thoughtfully designed. The Montessori model naturally provides for students to move comfortably from grade-to-grade and level-to-level, enabling them to be successful in taking their next step.
