This is one of my favorite times of year. It lightens my spirit to walk through the halls and see the abundance of color and creativity!
Yesterday, the ASM Art Show Opening Event kicked off a month-long celebration of our art program. Each of our students selected their own artwork to display that communicates their ideas and feelings visually, without using words. The freedom of creative self-expression through a variety of mediums conveys beauty, develops skills and builds self-confidence.
The arts curriculum is a significant component of our children’s education. Exposure to artistic processes actually improves one’s creativity. The process of creating art is just as meaningful as the product, perhaps even more so. Our students, and all of us actually, have natural talents that are just waiting to be developed. Our talents and interests are cultivated through exposure to the arts and by the coaching provided by our teachers and mentors, some of whom are artists, writers, poets and musicians.
I want to thank Art Teacher Andrea West for bringing this wonderful celebration of student art to ASM! Thank you to the parent volunteers who assisted Andrea in setting up the displays. If you haven’t had the opportunity to view our budding artists’ work, I hope you can find a few moments in your busy schedule to come in and view the wonderful array of beauty!
