American Red Cross Blood Drive

Posted by Joanna on January 2, 2020

ASM is hosting its fifth American Red Cross Blood Drive today from 2:00-7:00 p.m. in the American Room. I am thankful that ASM is able to assist the Red Cross in its efforts to save lives. Hosting a blood drive is supportive of our mission, philosophy and sense of who we are as a community.

Did you know that:

  • every two seconds someone in the U.S. needs blood?
  • more than 36,000 blood units are needed daily?
  • an estimated 1,762,450 people were diagnosed with cancer in 2019 and needed blood, sometimes daily, during their chemotherapy treatment?
  • just 7% of people in the US have the universal donor blood type – O negative?

We probably all know someone who has received a blood transfusion during an emergency or throughout an illness. It’s no surprise that the supply of blood decreases considerably at this time of year; the need is still great.
