AISNE and AMS Re-accreditation

ASM is at the 5-year mark of its joint accreditation by the American Montessori Society (AMS) and the Association of Independent Schools of New England (AISNE).

Our faculty and staff have collaborated with one another over the past five years to achieve the AISNE recommendations. One of the striking aspects of this process for me has been seeing the faculty and staff so highly engaged in their respective committees. They have been reflective and proactively engaged in the process of continuous improvement. This is what has, and will make our accreditation successful.

In this age of technology, we experience immediate feedback, instant gratification, and up-to-the-minute breaking news. Sometimes it’s easy to forget the power of taking the long view, in this case ten years, to ensure the advancement of student learning and the highest quality programming in our school.

As I reflect on this, there are interesting similarities between our real-world accreditation process and student learning in a Montessori environment. Our process has provided opportunities for collaboration, critical thinking, creativity and presentation much like in our classrooms. Our students, like our faculty, delve deeply and over a multi-year period which brings joy to the process of learning and work of which they are proud.

We will be hosting the accreditation team from AMS and AISNE next Friday when they will meet with our board president, faculty, staff and me to discuss our impressive body of work. I look forward to sharing the results of the visit with you in the spring.
