ASM’s Vision for STEM
Posted by Joanna on October 11, 2018
At ASM, we provide an environment which facilitates exploration and creativity among our students. Our interdisciplinary STEM curriculum engages students in math, science and the engineering design process while purposefully incorporating technology. STEM expertise, in combination with the arts and humanities, will empower our students to examine and confront generational challenges.
Four years ago, ASM was selected through an application process to participate in the Worcester Polytechnic Institute STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Program for District Leaders. Eight representatives from ASM’s faculty and administration engaged in a year-long program which resulted in the above vision and a strategic plan for the implementation of a STEM curriculum for our students.
Since then, our faculty has been trained in STEM disciplines, including coding and the engineering design process. Each year we have introduced new curricula, in accordance with our Strategic Plan, thus bringing depth to our programmatic offerings in STEM.
Last fall, I was honored that ASM was selected by the Boston Museum of Science to pilot a new engineering curriculum for Kindergarten. We continue to seek new and exciting STEM opportunities for our students, Children’s House through Middle School!
